Former 300-pound NFL lineman Alan Faneca much thinner, runs a marathon in 3:56

We’ve seen NFL linemen drop a lot of weight after retirement, but it seems like Alan Faneca has them all beat.

Jeff Saturday looks good in a suit on ESPN, but he’s not running marathons. Faneca did run the 26.2 miles this weekend, looking shockingly svelte while doing so. And he finished in less than four hours, hitting the finish line in 3:56 at the Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon, according to Runners World.

Faneca, who retired after the 2010 season, lost 70 pounds in the three months after retirement, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He has lost plenty more since then.

He told the Times-Picayune how he got the urge to run marathons.

“One day I ran around doing about 7 miles, and that got the competitive juices flowing,” Faneca said. “So I started thinking about doing the half (marathon) and running longer distances.”

Not many offensive linemen dream of running marathons. But then again, Faneca looks nothing like an offensive lineman anymore.
