Ryan Hall Wins Costa Rican Half-Marathon

Ryan Hall_01American leads the race from the start to claim victory.

In his second race since withdrawing from last month’s Boston Marathon due to a quadriceps strain, Ryan Hall won the inaugural Gatorade Half Marathon in Costa Rica on Sunday. He placed second at last weekend’s Bay to Breakers 12K in San Francisco.

The American broke the tape in 1:04:09, more than four minutes ahead of second-place finisher Cesar Lizano (1:08.17). Roy Vargas came in third with a time of 1:09.23.

Hall, who led the race from the start, said on Twitter that the lead vehicle told him he set a PR of 7:54 over the first 3 kilometers of the race. “Paid the price the last 10k. Ouch!!,” he wrote.

Entering the race, Hall was excited to compete in Costa Rica — what he calls his “happy place” because it’s where he and his wife Sara spent their honeymoon.

Hall owns the American record in the half-marathon, a 59:43 he ran in Houston in 2007.
